Chick-fil-A Brings Back Original Waffle Fry Recipe After Customer Complaints

Chick-fil-A has reversed a recent change to its waffle fry recipe after customers voiced strong opposition online.

In late 2024, the company added pea starch to its fries in an effort to keep them crispier for longer. However, many diners said the change affected the taste and texture, sparking widespread complaints on social media.

Some customers described the fries as bland and said they lacked the flavor of the original recipe. One comment highlighted in a report by Fox News summed up the backlash: “I’m gonna miss that pea starch. Said no one.”

The decision to remove pea starch and return to the previous recipe was welcomed by many customers, including those with food allergies. While pea starch is not considered a major allergen, some families said the ingredient had limited their ability to safely eat the fries.

According to a report by New York Post, one parent wrote online, “Thanks, Chick-fil-A, for taking pea starch out of your fries. My son with food allergies can eat them again!”

The chain’s original waffle fries—first introduced in 1985—are now back to their classic recipe, restoring the familiar taste and texture that made them one of Chick-fil-A’s signature menu items.
