Olivia Rodrigo Opens Up About Joy, Pressure, and Authenticity in Her Next Era

Olivia Rodrigo recently shared with Cosmopolitan that her upcoming album “you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love” will showcase a wider emotional range than fans might expect. While some tracks lean into heartbreak, others embrace a lighter, more playful energy. She explained that the creative process this time felt more joyful overall, allowing space for both deeply sad moments and songs that are simply fun.

When it comes to measuring success, Rodrigo says her priorities have shifted inward. Rather than focusing on charts or reception, she values authenticity above all. Even if the album doesn’t resonate widely, she considers it a win if it genuinely reflects who she is and where she is in life. For her, true success also includes being surrounded by people she cares about.

Reflecting on her earlier work, Rodrigo admitted she felt intense pressure following the massive success of SOUR and her breakout hit drivers license. She described the rushed nature of creating SOUR, saying there was little time to refine songs as the world watched closely. With GUTS, that pressure only grew stronger, leading to self-doubt and a mindset focused more on proving herself than simply making music.
