Former Vermont Lawmaker Found Dead; Investigation Underway

Vermont State Police are investigating the suspicious death of 82-year-old Noel Neely of Norwich, Vermont, just across the New Hampshire border. Neely served three terms in the Vermont Legislature representing Pomfret from 1977 to 1982 and worked as office manager at Hanover Orthodontics alongside her husband, Donald Neely.

Police say Neely was found dead at her home Saturday and are treating the case as suspicious, though investigators say there is no known threat to the public. The investigation has sparked concern among some Dartmouth College students nearby.

A memorial for Neely is planned Friday at the Vermont State House.
