Man Arrested After Breaching ‘TODAY’ Show Set and Approaching Craig Melvin

A man was arrested after allegedly bypassing security and making his way onto the set of the TODAY show at 30 Rockefeller Plaza, where he approached co-anchor Craig Melvin.

The New York Police Department confirmed that an unidentified individual was taken into custody after officers responded to reports of a disorderly person inside the building. Authorities said no injuries were reported.

According to multiple reports, the man slipped past security and entered Studio 1A. He allegedly asked for Al Roker and, after learning he was unavailable, approached Craig Melvin while shouting a racial slur. Reports also claim the individual lunged toward Melvin before security intervened.

Roughly 15 minutes later, both Melvin and Roker appeared on the live broadcast as scheduled, though neither addressed the incident on air.

In a statement, TODAY confirmed there had been a security incident, explaining that the individual approached Craig Melvin, who immediately alerted security. The person was then detained and taken into custody by law enforcement without further incident. The network emphasized that there was no physical altercation and no one was injured.

"NBC and TODAY take the safety and security of our employees, talent, staff, and guests extremely seriously," the statement said. "We are reviewing the incident and our security protocols and remain committed to providing a safe and secure environment for everyone who works at and visits our studios."
