On Thursday A first-of-its-kind military and veteran housing and services facility in Franklin was unveiled.
Nearly 1,000 people attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony, including Gov. Kelly Ayotte, state leaders, veterans and their families.
The ceremony marked the completion of phase one of the Easterseals project, designed to establish a campus for military members and veterans.
Several speakers emphasized New Hampshire’s legacy as the first-in-the-nation primary state and shared pride in once again leading the way with this kind of facility.
The 15-acre campus has 29 affordable housing units, a retreat center and other services for those who have served in the armed forces.
Veterans and military members have access to services such as dog therapy and rock-wall climbing.
The project became a reality after Easterseals New Hampshire secured $23 million in funding. Officials noted that an additional $40 million is being raised to further expand the campus.
Attendees toured the completed facilities and got a preview of phase two of the project, which would include a rec center, fitness center and additional affordable housing units.
Veterans started moving in over the summer, and by Friday, every unit will be occupied.
